The Kędzierzyn-Koźle-based subsidiary of Grupa Azoty has signed an agreement with the National Centre for Research and Development (NCBR) to secure funding for a project entitled “New Biodegradable Polylactide Formulations Plasticized with Bioplasticizers, Preparation of Materials in Granule and Film Form, Digitalization and Automation of Laboratory Processes.” The funding amounts to PLN 3.2 million, which represents 55% of the project’s eligible expenses.
The project comprises two modules: R&D and Digitalization.
The R&D module aims to develop a new biodegradable plastic material based on polylactide using two ester-based plasticizers as an alternative to traditional plastics. The module will also include application, biodegradation, and aging resistance tests on the prepared films, ultimately optimizing the production process.
The Digitalization module will involve the implementation of an advanced IT system designed to manage laboratory processes.
“This project provides our company with the opportunity to develop new biodegradable products, positively impacting the natural environment by reducing the emission of chemical substances. This direction aligns with the principles of sustainable development and meets the expectations of our clients,” said Dariusz Bednorz, Vice President of Grupa Azoty Kędzierzyn, responsible for development.
The PLN 3.2 million funding, representing 55% of the project’s eligible costs, comes from the European Funds for a Modern Economy (FENG) program, aimed at enhancing businesses’ potential for research, development, and the implementation of innovative solutions.
The total project cost is PLN 6.5 million, with eligible expenses set to conclude in Q1 2028.
